Britannia was named by HM The Queen on March 10, 2015, in a glittering ceremony in Southampton. The Queen last named a P&O Cruises ship more than 20 years ago the 1,800-passenger Oriana -- then the largest ship in the fleet, which ushered in a new era of modern UK cruising. Fast forward 20 years and Britannia, arguably, does the same. The ship (at the time) was by far the biggest in P&O Cruises' fleet, carrying 3,647 passengers and weighing in at 141,000 tons -- 27,000 tons heavier and carrying 547 more passengers than the line's previous biggest ship, Azura. Britannia was also the biggest ship ever built specifically for the UK market, until sister Iona took that title in 2021.

Scandinavia & the Baltics from Southampton – P&O Britannia – 4 July 2025

Scandinavia & the Baltics from Southampton – P&O Britannia – 4 July 2025. Embarking on the Scandinavian and Baltic cruise from Southampton was an unforgettable journey through some of Northern Europe’s most enchanting destinations. This voyage offered a perfect blend of natural beauty, rich history, and vibrant cultures, leaving me with memories to cherish for a lifetime.

The Journey Begins

We set sail from Southampton, a bustling port city in the United Kingdom. The ship itself was a marvel, equipped with luxurious amenities, ensuring our comfort throughout the journey. As we sailed through the North Sea, the anticipation built up for the destinations that awaited us.

Stunning Scandinavian Landscapes

Our first stop was the charming city of Oslo, Norway. Surrounded by serene fjords and lush greenery, Oslo offered a delightful mix of modern architecture and historic sites. The Vigeland Sculpture Park and the Viking Ship Museum were particular highlights.

Next, we sailed to Copenhagen, Denmark, where the colorful Nyhavn waterfront and the grandeur of Amalienborg Palace captivated our senses. The city’s bike-friendly streets made exploring its unique neighborhoods a breeze.

Baltic Treasures

The cruise then took us to Tallinn, Estonia. Its medieval Old Town, with cobblestone streets and Gothic spires, transported us back in time. The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was a striking landmark that left a lasting impression.

In Riga, Latvia, the Art Nouveau architecture was a feast for the eyes. We wandered through the Central Market, indulging in local delicacies and admiring the vibrant culture.

Our final Baltic destination was Stockholm, Sweden. The city’s archipelago was a sight to behold. Visiting the Vasa Museum and the Royal Palace provided a deeper understanding of Sweden’s rich history.

Conclusion

This cruise offered an extraordinary blend of scenic beauty and cultural exploration. Whether you’re a history buff, nature lover, or simply seeking adventure, a Scandinavian and Baltic cruise from Southampton provides an unparalleled experience. The memories of this journey will undoubtedly linger, inspiring future travels.
