P&O Aurora. This beautiful and elegant ship is one of the largest in the P&O fleet and has all the hallmarks of conventional cruising with lots of exciting modern additions. Aurora received an update in March 2019 that saw the ship redesigned as an adults-only vessel. Gone are the kids clubs and teen areas, in their place are 28 brand-new cabins that were added to Deck 8. Other areas benefit from refreshed carpets, soft furnishings and upholstery. Aurora is one of the oldest ships in the P&O Cruises fleet (it was launched in 2000), and came out a much-needed £26 million refurbishment at the end of 2014 as the first to carry the new livery, featuring a contemporary version of the Union Flag on its bow, and a blue funnel. This may have disappointed a few P&O Cruises regulars, but it indicates the line's policy to combine a traditional British atmosphere with an up-to-date cruise experience.

Norway & Iceland from Southampton – P&O Aurora – 22 May 2025

Norway & Iceland from Southampton – P&O Aurora – 22 May 2025. Embarking on a cruise from Southampton to explore the breathtaking landscapes of Norway and Iceland was a journey filled with awe and wonder. The cruise ship, a floating resort of comfort and luxury, set the stage for an unforgettable experience Our first stop in Norway introduced us to the famous fjords. The sights were nothing short of spectacular, with towering cliffs and cascading waterfalls framing the serene waters. In Flåm, we took a scenic railway journey that offered panoramic views of lush valleys and snow-capped peaks. The small village was charming, providing a taste of Norwegian culture and hospitality.

Bergen, the next port of call, was a delightful mix of history and modernity. The colorful wooden houses of Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage site, added a vibrant touch to the cityscape. Wandering through the narrow alleyways and visiting the bustling fish market were highlights that made Bergen a memorable stop.

Iceland’s Natural Wonders

The cruise then took us to Iceland, a land of fire and ice. Our arrival in Reykjavik was greeted with a refreshing cool breeze and a landscape unlike any other. The Golden Circle tour was a must-do, taking us to the impressive Gullfoss waterfall, the active geysers at Geysir, and the historic Þingvellir National Park. Each site showcased Iceland’s dynamic geological features.

In Akureyri, the “Capital of the North,” we explored lush botanical gardens and enjoyed the scenic views of the surrounding mountains. The warm-hearted locals and their rich culture made our visit truly special.

Conclusion

The cruise from Southampton to Norway and Iceland provided a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural exploration, and relaxation. Each destination offered unique experiences that left an indelible mark on our hearts. This journey is a must for those seeking adventure and tranquility in some of the world’s most picturesque settings.
