Whether you're lounging by the pool, trying out new activities, or simply enjoying the sea breeze on your face, there's something for everyone. Day 5

Sitka

Sitka is a charming coastal town in Alaska that is filled with natural beauty and cultural significance. Visitors can explore the Sitka National Historical Park, which commemorates the Tlingit people who have inhabited the area for thousands of years. The park includes a totem pole trail, where visitors can see traditional Tlingit totem poles and learn about their significance. Additionally, visitors can enjoy fishing, kayaking, and hiking in the surrounding wilderness. Sitka also offers a variety of dining options, including fresh seafood and locally sourced ingredients.

Day 6

Tracy Arm Fjord

Tracy Arm Fjord.  A "fjord" is a Nordic term meaning a narrow waterway surrounded by sharp cliffs. So while Juneau's Mendenhall Glacier steals most of the tourist traffic, the 27-mile-long Tracy Arm Fjord is the bigger, better, and more dramatic natural gem. The inlet is very narrow – at times, no more than half a mile wide – with cliffs that rise more than 3,000 feet on either side and waterfalls that cascade down the steep rock walls. During the summer, you can spot eagles, seals, bears, and whales here. Recent visitors said that if you only have time for one experience in Juneau, this is it. Travelers described the glacial scenery as "incredible" and "breathtaking," and recommended bringing along a quality set of binoculars and a camera to capture the scene. The Tracy Arm Fjord is 45 miles south of Juneau, but worth the trek. If your cruise ship doesn't sail through the glaciers, you'll have to take a boat tour, which usually lasts an entire day. Adventure Bound Alaska and Allen Marine Tours operate well-reviewed excursions from May through September, and you should reserve your spot at least a week in advance; space is limited and rates vary. For more information, check out each tour company's website. This small town (with only about 30,000 residents) is no longer fueled by mining, fur trading, and whaling; outdoor enthusiasts are the economic driving forces here. And now, the citizens of Juneau brandish cheap souvenirs rather than hunting equipment. But don't take the bait: The best souvenirs will be the priceless photos you shoot with your camera. Juneau's majestic setting leaves many in utter awe.
Day 6

Juneau

Juneau is the capital city of Alaska and a nature lover's paradise. Surrounded by mountains, glaciers, and waterways, Juneau offers a wide range of outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, and whale watching. The Mendenhall Glacier is a must-visit attraction, where visitors can witness the stunning natural phenomenon of ice calving. For history buffs, the Alaska State Museum showcases the state's rich cultural heritage and art. Visitors can also take the Mount Roberts Tramway for panoramic views of the city and the surrounding landscape. Juneau is a destination that offers something for everyone.

Day 7

Haines

Haines, Alaska is a small town located in the northern part of the state. It's known for its incredible natural beauty, with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers. Visitors to Haines can take part in a variety of outdoor activities, such as hiking, fishing, and kayaking. The town is also home to a thriving arts community, with galleries and studios showcasing the work of local artists. For those interested in history, the Sheldon Museum and Cultural Center is a must-see, with exhibits on the Tlingit people and the gold rush era.

Day 8

Ketchikan

Ketchikan, Alaska is a charming and picturesque town located on Revillagigedo Island. Sitting at the southernmost entrance to the famed Inside Passage, Ketchikan is known for its thriving fishing industry, Native American totem poles, and beautiful scenery. Visitors can take a stroll through the historic downtown area to admire the colorful buildings and unique shops or explore the surrounding wilderness on a guided hiking or kayaking tour. For those interested in learning about the local history and culture, the Totem Heritage Center and Saxman Native Village offer fascinating insights into the area's rich past.
